Welcome to Honors English I
Course Overview:
This is genre-based class in which students will study short stories, poetry, persuasive literature, Shakespeare, and novels. We will begin to develop writing skills and will focus on research and persuasion. Goal: Students will understand different types of writing and will have a good base to prepare them for further writing in high school. Through reading different genres and vast amounts of writing, we hope to prepare students for life after graduation. Grading Policy: We will follow the grading scale adopted by Louisville High School. A numerical system will be used in determining your grades. 98-100 A+ 77- 79 C 95-97 A 74-76 C- 92-94 A- 71-73 D+ 89-91 B+ 68-70 D 86-88 B 65-67 D- 83-85 B- 0-64 F 80-82 C+ 56-64 F Materials Required 1. A binder with paper & four dividers 2. One composition notebook 3. Post-it notes Rules 1. Be Respectful -Do not talk while others are talking. -Use appropriate language. 2. Be on Time -You must be in your seat when the bell rings. 3. Be Prepared -You must have your textbook, journal, and binder every day. -You must turn in your work on time. LATE WORK IS NOT ACCEPTED. To prepare for life beyond high school, students are expected to complete all their work and meet deadlines. Students who miss school will be given the proper amount of time to make-up missed assignments. Tests or quizzes missed when absent will be given on the day the student returns. Consequences 1. Verbal warning & conference w/ student 2. Detention(s) and a phone call home 3. Office referral |
